Outreach Yoga
Bringing over ten years of experience teaching yoga in a range of outreach communities, including mental health facilities, hospitals, schools, and community centers, the facilitators of this elective will provide intensive instruction on yoga's relationship to brain development, trauma, and mental health, along with a practicum on how to teach to both adults and adolescents in outreach settings. While participants will primarily learn about teaching beyond the studio, information and practices will also help participants better meet all the needs of all students, including those in the studio. As a participant, you will participate in varied class structures, learn how to adapt a practice from the mat to the chair, and practice what you've learned in real time.

This program will be led by:
Veronika Martin, Indigo Yoga Outreach Instructor, 500RYT, MA in Sociology, former work with kids in non-profit group home setting, and private school classroom

Brandy Quinn, Indigo Yoga Outreach Instructor, 500RYT, Ph.D. in Education (Developmental Science), MA in Teaching, Associate Professor of Education (Texas Christian University), former K-12 Teacher

Join Jen V for a deep look at the differences between, and the advantages of Yin & Restorative yoga. Yin yoga encourages mindful and compassionate observation within poses, while creating waves of sensation. Restorative yoga is the practice of deep relaxation and healing through the use of supportive props, and breath. Combined together, they can release tension, soothe the nervous system, and create deep relaxation.

Performance/Endurance/Asana Knowledge

In this EDU, Crissa will show students the benefits of incorporating regular yoga into their training regimen to build strength, prevent injuries and enhance recovery. Students will be led through a yoga class incorporating specific poses designed to stretch and strengthen areas of the body where athletes tend to experience tightness and/or injury.

There will be a handout for students showing pictures of me doing some of the poses along with a brief explanation of each and the benefits.
